When purchasing a scope, the quality of the available options can vary from scope to scope and vendor to vendor, so it is important to ensure the scope you choose has the software options your project requires.  In this section we will talk about some of the more important options that you might want to consider. All scopes have functions, but we will demonstrate how these functions may be used and combined. Today’s high-speed serial signals can present a closed eye at the receiver, so software options to open this eye can be useful. It is also useful to examine the jitter profile of these signals. Finally, when working with a protocol, it can be useful to decode that protocol on the scope.
