VNA users often have challenges making meaningful S-parameter measurements of high power amplifiers (60 to 70 dB gain is common). Making these measurements requires consideration of a range of issues.  A discussion of these: VNA damage, VNA receiver compression, amplifier (DUT) damage, amplifier (DUT) compression, high reverse power for isolation measurements, adequate power level for valid calibration along with mitigation techniques to provide accurate and repeatable results are covered.
